There are more obese people in wheelchairs than handicapped people.

People who have legs but choose not to use them outnumber those without any legs at all.

There are more suicides than homicides. Take into consideration that is out of every 20 attempts.

The average person spends more on food than movie tickets, books, c.d.’s, dvds, parking and cable combined

There are more flowers bought for dead people than for people still breathing.

More people look to their horoscope for advice than a caring friend. Every morning millions of people check their horoscope for advice but who calls a friend and asks… “What do you think I should do today?”

People spend more time reading celebrity gossip than books

There are more engagement rings in stores than the number of marriages that survive more than 2 years. More and more small children in Africa die in diamond mines because Americans can’t find a better way to say, “I love you.”

A third of the women in this country carry purses that are worth more than the entire contents of the purse

A single man in his thirties is more likely to flirt with a woman 300 miles away than one that stands 3 feet from him.

We spend more money on prisons than we do on high schools.

Every week, parents spend more time looking for parking than they do with their kids (40 minutes)

There are more people praying to god in hospitals, prisons and casinos than in church. And all they want is another dollar and another day to spend it.

In the school year, a teenage kid types more words in text messages than they write in all of their homework and school assignments combined.

The United States consumes more than the entire continent of Asia. 21% of the world’s trash is our trash. America is 5% of the world’s population and 1/3 of its consumption

The gambling industry makes more every year than concerts, sports venues, movie theatres and amusement parks combined

There are more children in orphanages than the population of south florida.

Society puts more faith into technology than GOD.

I know this information is difficult to hear but sadly, it is not difficult to believe.

We want more. We expect more. We demand more.

More cable channels to choose from and complain about.

More useless iphone apps.

More hard drive space to store photos we didn’t even take and songs we don’t even listen to for their entirety.

More cell phone minutes to talk about nothing

More features on our computers that most of us only use to go on the internet.

More food for our dollar as we sink further into obesity.

More miles per gallon so that we can drive to places we’re more than capable of reaching on foot.

More support from our family and friends as we continue to live so far from our capabilities.

Many of us feel that we deserve:

More money from our job.

More hours in our day.

More free time.

We are no longer the “haves and have nots”, we are the haves and have to have mores.

But, if we got what we “deserve” the obvious result is that:

We’d do more of this…

More impracticality

More waste

More children seen as a consequence

More distortion

More testing the durability of our bodies with alcohol and drugs

More $ given to the liars and deceivers that run corporations which make us feel broken

More reasons for people to kill themselves

We ask so much of everything and so much more once we get it. But from ourselves, our life, our time here on this Earth, we ask nothing; we do nothing. We should be asking more of ourselves. Doing more with our time. Because those efforts would produce more love, more beauty, more true wealth. So much of what really matters and what really lasts, that there wouldn’t be anything left to fill with this bullshit.

Ask for nothing. Be everything.

I don’t think you are the only one who sees many of these negative things in our society today. However, I think you need to stop spending so much time looking for the negatives in our society and spend more time enjoying your life. As much as we’d all like to … you’re not going to change the world. People have not changed in thousands of years. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, the more we claim to be advancing and becoming more intelligent, we have actually regressed. We see all the things we are doing to destroy the world yet, we continue doing it. That is ignorance in it’s truest form.

the amazing thing is your points above r so obvious. most people would not negate this. however, most people also continue to want more, and now this is a global issue. how can we change this is the question? of course by example for one. live simply so that others may simply live
